Letting an app dress me | The Plan
I have been trying to get better at dressing myself everyday. While I am pretty good about it for social situations, I am completely lazy when it comes to getting dressed for work. Since we don't have a dress code, my default dress code everyday is jeans/leggings with a tshirt. Which leads me to this challenge.
I love play. I love random constraints, and I love generative design. All of this converges into apps that will generate outfits for you. My favorite is Smart Closet(for Android). It lets you enter photos of your clothing items and accessories, create outfits, assign them to days etc. BUT, the most fun feature, the feature we are going to use, is the auto outfit creation. You can create random rules, and it will generate outfits for you based on the rules. Here's some rules I have set up currently —
It is slightly limited, for example, you can't say Jeans or Pants, so I create two different rules, one with Jeans, and one with Pants. The top two rules are the ones I will be using for this challenge. As you can see, I haven't included a bag on there. That's because I have a laptop bag for work and can't really switch that out for a purse.
Here's how my self initiated challenge is going to work —
- Dress for 10 days (5 weekdays each week) according to the app's auto generated outfits.
- Skipping a day is allowed if outfit is inappropriate for work (I got a mesh top in there somewhere)
- For days when the shoe suggestion is a heel, I will take a flat shoe with me to work and switch during the day if needed.
- No skipping an outfit allowed for style reasons (for example, if I believe the colors don't go together).
Eeks, I am scared but excited to do this. Stay tuned to see how this challenge turns out!
